Spring Bingefest 2020

Hi, hello. Greetings & salutations!

Before anything else, I would like to express my gratitude to the men and women (and every person in-between) for their service to our nation. Memorial Day is about recognizing and honoring those of our military who have died while serving the country. However, I think a sincere thank you is in order to everyone who has, is, and will put in the work to keep us safe and sound via any public service position. Especially with this whole pandemic thing!

Instead of taking advantage of the long holiday weekend, I feel like it’s really taken advantage of me. I took an extra day off, and somehow my 4-day weekend is almost complete and most of my productive ambitions were sidelined.

Did I spray the yard for ticks and fleas? No. Sorry, Bean. You have to live as an inside dog forever.

Did I start pulling information for my next Tableau visualization? Nope, but I created more data for future ones (MyFitnessPal entries are LIT this weekend).

Did I finish my SQL/Python/Yelp API project? Nah. I did manage to fix some CSS bits for the styling of this site, do a little back end cleanup, and plan for things I’d like to add later. I’ve also been poking around in PostgreSQL, trying to get my footing in the environment. I’ve been finding out just how different ORDMS systems are from RDMS ones, and it’s a trip!

Did I get in a run around Lake Hefner? Negatory, but I have been getting in my daily 30 mins (usually 3.3-3.5 miles). Unfortunately, those sad, puny runs are no match for my calorie intake over the last few days though.

Did I bake a butt-ton of banana bread with all of the overripe bananas I’ve been hoarding in the fridge? Not yet. But it’s mostly because I’m worried about eating all of it between now and the end of the weekend. I have no self-control with baked goods; it’s got to go to work with the boyfriend ASAP.

So what have I been doing? Binging. So much binging.

I lied when I said I did a little back end cleanup. I did a lot. And a lot of style sheet testing. So, I guess you could say I’ve been chugging on the developer tools in this regard. It’s still a mismatched mess, but it’s getting better!

I’ve been literally binging; I’ve used Postmates and GrubHub more times this weekend than over the past few months. I’ve just discovered how DELICIOUS fried, peppered tofu is and now I want it all. The. Time!  I’ve also indulged in bubble tea, IPA, donuts, macarons, sushi, and tikka masala with keema naan (lamb meat naan). My appetite hasn’t been so happy in a while, but I’m not sure if my waistline will make it.

I don’t think I can claim to binging correctly without disclosing my Netflix activity. I spent all Saturday evening watching Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories. If you’re into lighthearted drama with happy endings, this anthological series makes for great watching.

I started an anime called Gleipnir, which I’m just now understanding is a perfect title for the series. It feels a lot like a mix of Deadman Wonderland, Darling in the Franxx, and Mirai Nikki.

And today my boyfriend and I started and completed the first season of Dave (“Lil Dicky”). It was amazing. It was as entertaining as you’d expect a series produced by Lil Dicky and Kevin Hart to be, but it was also so incredibly wholesome. We laughed, we frowned, we felt awkward, and we can’t wait for more!

Well, I guess there’s one more day to check that productivity box. At least we’re planning to hike Mt. Scott tomorrow if it doesn’t rain. I’m sure I should feel a lot guiltier about how my time was spent this weekend, but sometimes a person just needs to take full advantage of the down time (or let it take advantage of them). I’ve definitely been feeling some burn out lately and hopefully I’ll come back to the work week feeling refreshed!
